What have I been up to?

I Had a Birthday
It was great! We went to DC Improv to see Gabriel Iglesias, who was hysterical! Then came home to my friends and ate red velvet cupcakes and opened presents! (I love the presents part) I scored too - I got some Halloween village stuff which I was really looking forward to. On top of that, I had my good friend from Florida up for my birthday and Halloween party. It was so wonderful to see her, and she was even a good sport and helped w/ Halloween decor (thanks for that!)

The night before my birthday, we went to see the Nightmare Before Christmas (in 3-D)! I so love that movie!! But somewhere between the movie and home the next morning, I LOST MY FRIGGIN PURSE!!!!! That was so very aggravating, but nothing I could do about it. So I spent a good part of my birthday trying to figure out what happened to the stupid thing. You know -- the one with THE wallet. The wallet I looked for for EVER and couldn't find... then finally found it in Minnesota??? Yeah, that wallet was in it. Ok, my ID, credit cards and other stuff too -- but my wallet?? damn, I was upset about that one. I found a decent replacement, but it isn't the one I loved. Oh well... Better things to be worried about right?

We Had a Halloween Party
It was also great - TV theme and we had no one come out of costume -- this is a first for us. I have pictures to share, but still on the camera. They will make it off eventually.

Someone Broke Into the House
This has been the biggest aggrivation in the last week. AND it was supposed to be the day I worked from home. I keep wondering if it wouldn't have happened if I were here, if I would have been in danger or if it would have just happened a different day. They took a jar of change, Hubby's laptop, our big TV, my jewelry box with most of my stuff in it (most not expensive, but is a life long collection that can't be replaced) and the worst thing is hubby's guitars. It is particularly bad because the guitar is what he turns to for comfort. Then, on top of violating our space and leading to more mistrust of the world, they hurt the dog, Bubba. We don't know exactly what happened to her, but her hind leg is hurt and still can't get up the stairs or doing any other activity really. There was nothing broken, but she clearly hurts. Good thing for puppy drugs! She was wondering around for the day, so it could have happened at any time (no fence) The vet thinks she may have been hit by a car slightly or possibly kicked by the bastards who were here. Itty was still in her crate, so she was probably scared, but was left alone.

Since this happened, we've decided that we really don't feel safe here anymore and are looking to move. We found a house not far away that looks like it would be a good fit. We turn in our applicaton today. Hopefully that will work out. We hate leaving this house -- it has been great to us, serves our needs and allows for fun things like Quiddich tournaments and Pirate Camping. But, can't really gain the trust back, since nothing has changed except for some of our stuff being gone -- we still have more, and still don't want to be hurt. So that REALLY sucks.

I do have to say that we have the greatest friends anyone could ever hope to have. As soon as it happened E called Ricki, who came over while hubby was dealing w/ the cops. Since the pup was hurt, I took her to the vet. While I was gone, E, Ricki, HP, Asian, Suave and movie guy came over and cleaned the house from the break in and fingerprint dust, fixed the door where the window was broken in, replaced it with wood (so it would be secure), took care of Itty and were sooooo very wonderful to us. I am forever grateful for everything they did. We have the bestest friends ever!

Since then some other stuff has happened, that may even be blog worthy, but I am tired. Maybe another day. for now, take some lessons: keep owners manuals and take pictures of the things you wouldn't want stolen in your house. Mark the stuff that makes sense in an identifiable way (engrave initials, etc.) and take the pictures and manuals, putting them in a place that wouldn't be stolen with the stuff. Then... get insurance! Sooo glad we did that part right :)

Nightmare Before Christmas!

Jay-Low -- in her infinite wisdom, found a facebook "gift" of Jack Skellington!
 WOOHOO! Thanks Jay-Low!

This brings up a couple of topics:
-- "gifting" via a social network. While this particular gift is kind of cool for me (aka huge tim burton fan), is this really a "thing"? Kind of weird way to force monetization into social networking isn't it? Maybe the gifts aren't worth anything to me -- except this one? Maybe that is the point? (although the other "gifts" look kind of lame.) Maybe I just don't get it... maybe it will catch on... in the mean time, I still think it is weird.

-- Nightmare Before Christmas! As the month of Frantober moves along, Mr. Burton, in his infinite wisdom (and marketing skill), has seen fit to send Jack Skellington in 3-D into the theaters again this year. Yay! The site isn't finished yet -- seems to have a launch date of tomorrow (damn me and being early!), but there is all kinds of interactive stuff to do, including... get this... wait for it... create your own nightmare character!!! I have it on my calendar and time set aside to play test this for "work research' on uh... toys? (does that work?) I can get away with that... right? research? I think so...

In true Frantober form, we are moving right along with a great month!

Anniversary Trip

  • Oct. 8th, 2007 at 11:15 AM
stick figure

Last weekend, hubby and I went on a weekend trip to Williamsburg to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. This was way better than the traditional anniversary gift of Tin.

Along the way we learned a few things...
* Sometimes the hotel description is correct and actually is that good.
* Geese don't feel as though they need to get out of the way of a vehicle driving on the road where they are walking in the middle.
* Don't pay for the full Colonial Williamburg tour. It is a little lame and you get more from a book than you do from a tour.
* Make reservations to the place you want to eat early.
* Bring a bottle opener with you everywhere you go.
* 10 Years can seem like minutes if you think about when you got married, but decades if you think about what you've done together in those 10 years.
* Plan a lot of time to have breakfast anywhere on Sunday morning.

We had a wonderful trip and I can't wait for the next 10 years.

Last year Belle dubbed the month of October "Frantober" because of the many events in the month that I love so much.

This year, again, I am doing all kinds of way cool stuff!

Oct 1 I took off work and went "Falling" (aka, looking at all the fall stuff (aka, halloween stuff) in the stores and making plans for what I needed to get.

Oct 5 - 6 going to
Williamsburg w/ hubby for our 10 year anniversary

Oct 11: celebrate the actual anniversary

Oct 13: "nothing" -- as noted by my friends who are planning something "exciting" but "nothing" at the same time. Sounds like fun to me?? I got a dress! OK, if this is any good or not is still TBD ;)

Oct 20:
Renn fair (yay!) and Pirate Camping! It's a thing, it is silly, but it will be GREAT!

Oct 22 - 27: I have the week off from work.

Oct 24: My friend comes into town to see me (awww...)

Oct 26: The 5th anniversary of my 29th birthday, to be celebrated with
DC Improv and Red Velvet cupcakes.

Oct 27: Halloween party

Oct 30: Work field trip to the
Supreme Court (how cool is that??)

Oct 31: Halloween (aka, coolest holiday EVER)

Would it be as great if every month could be Frantober? Or is it better to have something to look forward to? Tough call...
